Eat Me. Chiswick Fire Station, Chiswick

Saturday mornings are my favourite time of the week - everyone seems extra cheerful, the city moves at an easier pace and there's plenty of time to catch up with friends - of the human and furry variety.

Soph and I heard a whisper that Chiswick had a new little hotspot so we took a stroll round the river [along with my favourite golden retriever Amy] and headed for No. 197 Chiswick Fire Station for a bite of lunch.

Formerly home to west London firemen, this venue has had a few hosts over the years but I think this newest restaurant is definitely its best resident thus far. The interior oozes style and as we discovered, the food is fab too. Think crafty cocktails and antipodean-inspired dishes. Perfect for a pair of Aussies.

There's plenty of wooden panelling, rustic influences and a fabulous cocktail bar should you fancy a tipple or two. Not to mention the delightful little sun trap out the back. Hello summer afternoons.

We settled in to soak up the rays, sipping a few of their house lemonades. Be sure to try the berry and the grapefruit. I can't decide which I liked best.

After a rather wine-y Friday evening the night before, we were ready to dig into the food. We had the crostini selection which was a nice way to start. Just the right nibble size - i.e., one mouthful, one go.

The coconut poached chicken, which was to die for. So light and healthy with a zingy, Asian-influenced salad.

The breakfast bruschetta was next, with oozy cooked tomatoes and plenty of avo. Wasn't the hugest fan of the thick bacon but it's still worth a try.

Lastly a giant dish of mussels with crusty bread. Mmm mmm. The sauce was perfect to mop up. I even caught Amy giving me some very wishful eyes, looks like she fancied it too.

If you're out west then be sure to stop on by for coffee, a bite or even a cocktail. With its cool modern minimalist theme and quirky accents, I'm sure you'll feel right at home. And for any freelancers, there's even a little corner for you!
