If you’re heading for Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula, chances are someone has told you to visit Polperro while you’re there. This famous vineyard is a bit like the pride of the region, with its great wines and even better restaurant. On our final night in Red Hill, we drove over in our MINI to sample what they had on offer.
The estate is set on sprawling property with neat lines of vines that complement the long, winding driveway. Tucked away down the back you’ll find the restaurant and cellar door, with its own deck for tasting. On any given sun-drenched afternoon, you can pull up a sun lounger overlooking the vines and sip the local blends. It really is a delightful way to contemplate life.
After a quick sample ourselves, we headed on in for an early dinner. The interior at Polperro is like country cottage meets modern chalet. Blending old with new in the best way possible, complete with a crackling fire. Whilst sipping on a delightful pinot grigio we sampled crispy tortilla with kingfish sashimi.
Before moving onto my go-to dish – seafood pasta. Polperro’s came in the form of crab spaghetti, delicately garnished with garlic, chilli, olive oil and breadcrumbs. Perfect for a carb fiend like me!
Feeling utterly sated, we headed home to fall into a contented slumber, marking the end of our glorious weekend in Red Hill.
