Eat Me. Dining Delights In Waikiki

Being an avid lover of poke bowls, I was looking forward to trying the real deal in Hawaii, that and so much more. From light island Japanese-inspired cuisine to more stereotypical American burgers and fries. Whatever your tastes, you’ll find something here in Waikiki.

During the day we opted for quick, easy, light meals. Standouts for me included Marukame Udon for incredible handmade noodles (expect to queue, but don't worry, it moves quickly), the açai bowls from Honolulu Coffee inside the Moana Surfrider Hotel, fresh Malasada donuts from the Hyatt Regency markets and anything from The Cheesecake Factory for a quick and generous meal. It really is an institution and I do recommend you go for lunch.

Whilst we ate quick and easy by day we certainly indulged in a few memorable meals by night...

Every evening started with cocktail hour [of course!]. Sunset drinks here aren’t to be missed. We generally tried a new location each night but the hotel bars are always a safe bet. We loved House Without A Key at the Halekalani, Rumfire at the Sheraton and Dukes at The Outrigger.

The evening buffet at the Hyatt Regency is certainly one to enjoy after a day on the sand. Expect fresh, handmade nigiri and maki sushi along with Alaskan crab, oysters and prawns. From the hot buffet you can also sample a range of local dishes like island chowder, seafood curry and Lau Lau (fish wrapped in taro leaf). If you do stop by to dine, keep an eye out for Simon, the most delightful waiter you’re ever sure to meet.

We also enjoyed a beautiful evening at Orchid at the Halekalani. Set on the water’s edge with white tablecloths and live Hawaiian music each night, this is THE memorable holiday meal with the sunset to match. Try the seafood lasagnette for main and don’t leave without trying their Signature Coconut Cake. Unbelievable. When you’ve finished dinner be sure to stick your head into Lewers Lounge where the jazz trio will serenade you to your holiday-heart’s content.
